How Does a Laser Work?
Podiatrists direct lasers at the skin tissue that requires treatment. When the laser’s energy beam hits the tissue, it evaporates the moisture contained in the cells. However, unlike surgery that causes bleeding, the laser beam seals or cauterizes blood vessels. The laser destroys whatever is causing the skin condition and also cuts off the blood supply that is sustaining it. So, you shouldn’t have to worry about bleeding after the procedure is over. The evaporation factor also helps reduce swelling or inflammation.
What to Expect with Laser Treatment
Many patients say they feel no sensation at all during laser treatment and others say they experience a slight sensation of warmth from the laser energy beam. The laser beam irradiates the source of the skin condition, but you won’t experience any damage in the healthy skin tissue surrounding the area being treated.
You can receive laser treatment as an outpatient procedure at our office. It also doesn’t take long — usually anywhere from fifteen minutes to a half hour.
Advantages of Laser Treatment
Laser treatment is non-toxic, and you don’t have to worry about side effects the way you do with some oral medications required in traditional care. It also has a higher success rate than medications. Laser treatment is a sophisticated, cutting edge technology — an effective option to restore your feet to a healthy condition.
